Do I have to make an appointment to see the vet?
An appointment is strongly advised and preferred so that the waiting time can be kept to a minimum. We do accept walk-in clients as well. Waiting time for walk-ins will be at least half an hour and can be unpredictable as our appointments have to be seen on time. For emergency cases, a call ahead of time is strongly advised to ensure we are equipped to manage your pets’ needs immediately on arrival.
I just bought a puppy. Can I bring it in to be vaccinated immediately?
While newly acquired pets can be brought in immediately for a health check, we recommend allowing your puppy/kitten to get accustomed to the new environment at home for at least a week before bringing them in for a vaccination. This will help you to understand the normal habits of your pet and if any abnormalities result from the vaccine, we can quickly identify them.
What is the earliest age my puppy/kitten can be vaccinated?
They can receive their first vaccine as early as 6 weeks. They will need 2 more booster vaccines 3-4 weeks apart such that the last one be given during 14-16 weeks of age.
Apart from vaccinations, what other basic healthcare does my dog need?
They need to be on an anti-tick and flea product. They should be dewormed every 3 months if they spend a lot of time outdoors. Heartworm prevention is strongly recommended as well.
Is heartworm prevention important? What happens if I miss a dose of heartworm medication?
Yes. Heartworm disease is easily preventable. When dogs get affected, the condition is expensive to treat and potentially life threatening. If you miss a dose or a few doses of heartworm preventative, please consult us immediately.
How long do I have to wait to receive the results of the lab tests carried out at the clinic?
Routine blood tests, skin tests, urinalysis and fecalysis results are usually out within the hour.
When do you perform surgeries?
We do surgeries on most days during our lunch break. Do schedule an appointment early as slots are limited each day.
My pet is having surgery tomorrow. Can it have food or water?
Pets going for surgery will need to be fasted i.e. no food from midnight and no water from 6 am.
When can I pick up my pet after surgery?
We usually allow patients to go home on the day of the surgery. In some cases, we may recommend hospitalizing them overnight depending on the type of procedure performed and the severity of the animal’s condition.
Do you board animals at the clinic? If yes, what do we need to bring?
We only board pets if they have a medical condition which needs them to have special care or take medications daily. Please bring all medications in labelled pill vials/ zip lock bags. A consultation with a vet prior to boarding is necessary.
My cat is sick and needs to be hospitalized. Is there a separate area for cats to stay?
At Oasis Vet, we have a cat ward that is situated away from the dog ward to ensure that their stay is comfortable and stress-free.
Is it necessary to bring my dog/cat in for yearly examination?
For young pets less than 6 years old, a yearly examination is recommended to check for health issues that may not be apparent to owners. Once they are 6 years and older, these senior patients will require an examination every 6 months. During the examination, the vet will examine your pets’ eyes, ears, skin, hair coat, heart and feel their abdomen for any abnormalities. Feel free to discuss any concerns you may have with our medical team.
